plunking back
Craig Biggio has been hit by pitches 282 times in 262 games, as this site has often mentioned. But an opposing player has only been hit in 80 of those 262 games, for a total of 92 HBPs buy opposing teams in games in which Biggio was hit. Biggio got hit 86 times in those 80 games.
81 different opposing batters have been plunked in games in which Biggio was also hit by a pitch - 11 have done it twice, but only one did it twice in the same game. That was Greg Colbrunn of the Marlins on September 29, 1996. The list also includes two current Astros and one Hall of Famer.
No player has recorded more than 2 career HBPs in games played against the Astros in which Biggio got hit by a pitch. And, only once has the pitcher who plunked Biggio been hit by a pitch in the same game - Willie Banks on July 17, 1995. However, Banks got hit in the 2nd inning by a Mike Hampton pitch, and came back to plunk Biggio in the 7th.
Last year, the Astros hit a batter in 5 of the 9 games in which Biggio was plunked, making it the first year of Biggio's career that the Astros hit a batter in more than half the games Biggio got hit. The Astros hit the most batters in games when Biggio was plunked in 1996, with 12 in 10 games. But Biggio got hit in 26 games that year. In 1999, Biggio was hit 11 times without the Astros hitting a batter in any of those games.

I think the plunk is going to happen on August 12th, and the hit is going to occur on June 23th.

Oh great... now I've got A-rod spam...
I seem to have started a third-week-of-June trend. Must be a solstice thing or something. I blame A-rod.
Don't worry. Since it's A-Rod spam, by definition, it can't have any effect on the blog.
