Break's over, back to work.

Summer vacation is over for the Astros and they'll head back to school beginning today in Florida against Dontrelle Willis and the Marlins. Willis is leading the league in hit batters with 13 on the season and the Marlins are tied for the league lead with 48. Willis has plunked Biggio in each of the last two seasons, on September 12, 2005 and May 18, 2004. The Astros are 8-5 when the Marlins have hit Biggio with a pitch, but only 1-2 when Biggio has been hit twice. Florida and Arizona are the only two teams that the Astros have a losing record against in game when Biggio has been plunked twice.
The Astros will be hoping for an offensive boost from the newly acquired Aubrey Huff. Huff hasn't been hit by a pitch this year, but he does have 21 career plunks, with a respectable career high of 8 in 2003. Okay, they probably didn't get him to increase the team plunk totals, but hopefully he'll help the offense out somehow, but perhaps not today since he's only batting .232 against lefties this year.

So what are we all gonna do when Biggio finally breaks the hallowed record? Are there parties planned? I'm not expecting the Astros organization to do anything special, seeing as they will probably toe the MLB line and pretend to be unaware that there was baseball played prior to 1900. Which means that it will be up to us, the loyal readership, to take the initiative. Or something.

Anybody got any ideas?

I was hoping we'd all be invited to the Huckabee's in Chesterfield County for a big cookout, but given Cletus's troubles with the local authorities this past spring at the frog giggin' festival I'm not sure if he could get a permit to hold a large gathering. And then there's the problem of getting everyone there since I don't think Cletus's hometown sounds like it has an international airport, and I'm not sure those snobs at Mapquest have even acknowledged that it exists.

I have a better idea. Why don't you take me on a nice non-baseball related vacation?

official girlfriend, that sounds like a wonderful idea except that it wouldn't really be an appropriate way to celebrate a baseball-related milestone....hm...maybe some baseball-themed jewelry, perhaps?

I don't think she's feeling the spirit of Plunk 288 DM... which is weird since she had the idea for the "Plunk 288" shirts on the store.
I'm sure she'll have some more baseball related ideas once we get a little closer to 288 and the importance of the moment becomes more tangible. Either that or she'll continue claiming that she hates baseball - which couldn't possibly be true.

After plunk 268 another website claimed that "the folks at plunkbiggio are popping champagne corks - at each other". So we could do that, but the cupcakes idea sounds more pleasant.
