two more days to get plunked in St. Louis

Craig Biggio didn't get hit by a pitch last night, and the Astros fell just short, by a 3-2 score, but they'll try again today and tomorrow in St. Louis. And, the Cardinals are scheduled to start two pitchers who have plunked Biggio before. Today, Kip Wells, who hit Biggio with a pitch on July 12, 2003 for the Pirates, and tomorrow it will by Braden Looper who plunked Biggio on April 13, 2005.

Ol' Pigpen has been plunked once on May 5th - in 1997 by Mark Leiter, and twice on May 6th. Kris Benson threw plunk 246 on May 6, 2004, and on May 6, 1998, Biggio became the only player ever to be hit by a pitch thrown by a pitcher who struck out 20 batters in the game. Kerry Wood's 20 strike out game was 9 years ago, but since Clemens threw his 2 20 strike out games 10 years apart, I think Cubs fans should assume that Wood will do it again next year. And then leave the team, get in really good shape, win several Cy Young awards, and hang around making people wonder if he'll ever retire, pitching half-seasons into his late 40s.
If you're interested, the other 20 strikeout games can be found here, here, here, and here.
